Parts of a lawsuit:

Plaintiff: the person suing.

Interrogatories: In civil procedure, an interrogatory is a list of written questions one party sends to another as part of the discovery process. The recipient must answer in writing under oath and according to the case's schedule. Because attorneys may help their clients answer interrogatories, interrogatory responses tend to be more finely crafted than answers to deposition questions.

Deposition: is a witness's sworn out-of-court testimony. It is used to gather information as part of the discovery process and, in limited circumstances, may be used at trial. The witness being deposed is called the "deponent."

Summons: Tells a party being sued (the defendant) that a court case has started and what can happen if a response is not filed in 30 days.

Motion of discovery: In civil actions, the discovery process refers to what parties use during pre-trial to gather information in preparation for trial.

Bench trial: refers to the type of trial that does not involve a jury but is conducted by the judge alone, in which the judge both decides the facts of the case and applies the law and is the decision making authority.

Jury trial: In a jury trial, decision making is shared between 12 individuals who must deliberate prior to reaching a verdict.
